The Manta Ray Hybrid from AquaBound is the absolute lightest paddle at its price point. Lighten your day, not your standards, with the Aqua-Bound Manta Ray Hybrid 2-Piece Kayak Paddle. Think of this paddle as a fiberglass-reinforced version of Aqua-Bound's carbon touring paddles. The Manta Ray is great for day trips, aggressive surf kayaking and anything in between. This paddle is ideal for those interested in fitness, adventure racing or those who like to use an aggressive high-angle paddle stroke. The blade of the Manta Ray Hybrid blade is a tough fiberglass reinforced Nylon, 22% stronger than previous models, suitable for all types of kayaking from entry level right through long-distance touring. The shaft is 100 percent carbon, not a watered-downed mixture, providing the lightest weight possible. The Manta Ray comes with a three-hole snap button Posi-Lok ferrule system. This paddle, with a larger, yet durable blade, is ideal for those wanting to get going faster than their friends.

I purchased this paddle to upgrade from an older aluminum Whisper with smaller blades. This paddle is pretty good but nothing special. I feel the connection is too loose and just feels flimsy while paddling easy or hard.
I actually prefer my older aluminum shaft and as far as weight goes, nobody is really going to tell the small weight difference in the different materials.
The blades are nicely shaped and strong. I do like the bigger size blades on this model, perfect for heavier kayaks full of gear.
In conclusion, it is a fairly decent paddle but this company needs to make the shaft and connection point stronger. I personally will stick with the aluminum shaft paddles from now on.Hide

I paddle on Cape Cod and a range of rivers. Because I have paddled canoes and kayaks in races, the larger blade was just what I needed to get all the power into a stroke. Great value!
